This Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., volunteers will be available at Lloyd Center Mall (Suite and the Beaverton Resource Center to help people fill out and file their returns.
That's right. Do your taxes and shop afterwards. You won't have your refund yet but you might know what it is.
Of course, you'll have to bring your W-2s, photo ID and other records.
CASH Oregon helped more than 17,500 taxpayers in the Portland area claim $21 million in refunds last year, executive director Rob Justus said. It used 433 IRS-certified volunteers to do it.
This year, to help serve more people, it's offering self-prep sites. Recent college grads and other taxpayers can do their own tax returns online with a volunteer overseeing their work. The aim is to help people get used to filing their own returns online, Justus said.
"It's something the IRS is really promoting," Justus said. "Our biggest issue, frankly, is capacity. Our numbers just continue to grow. We're trying to capture some folks who really in the end could be doing their own taxes online."?
