MUMBAI (MarketWatch) -- Goldman Sachs Group Inc. /quotes/zigman/188479/quotes/nls/gs GS +0.10% plans to hold its annual board meeting in India later in March, the Times of India newspaper reported Monday.
Goldman Sachs Chief Executive Lloyd Blankfein and the rest of its 12-member board will be in India for a three-day visit starting March 29, the newspaper reported.
The directors--including billionaire Lakshmi Mittal--will also meet with top business leaders, policymakers and politicians, the report added.
Sonjoy Chatterjee, chairman and joint chief executive of Goldman Sachs India, told the newspaper that with inflation easing and the reversal in monetary tightening, India is now at the beginning of a new growth stimulus.
"In that context, the timing of the board's visit bears significance," the newspaper cited the executive as saying.
